The modern internet lifestyle

The Age of Information!

The good thing about this period and culture, is the fact that information is so freely available. In fact it is so freely available that most people straight up can’t focus. It’s just too much.

Welcome to the Age of Information, being informed is no longer a problem. How I see it the actual problem now, is how do we act on this information. How do we take all that we know and put it into practice?

To seek and be curious

Curiosity is a mixed blessing. One the one hand, curiosity can lead you to grow and expand. But on the other it can lead you to convince yourself of all your worst fears and send you into a massive fear spiral. Which is where we’re at. Most of us are doing one of those two things.

To seek new information doesn’t involve not choosing, and curiosity doesn’t mean being uncritical. We ultimately have to be critical of new information, and figure out what parts of it are relevant to us, and how we can adapt this information to best suit us. And we don’t have to seek out all new information. Some information is better suited for you, it resonates.

How I see it, the best way to approach the new oversaturation of information is, desperately hang on to what’s unique to you. Your circumstance, your personality, and your ideas. This is the key to success!

A shared safe space

One thing that the internet has allowed us, is a shared behavior. That type of shitposting, goofy, weird behavior that we are all familiar with, is universal. It is shared between every one of us. Maybe with the exception of tribal communities without any internet access. It is truly a shared safe space.

To thrive and be adapted

This new connected world is a wonder. Personally, I view the internet as the single biggest breakthrough since figuring out the seasons. And we’re right on the heels of another major breakthrough, you can probably guess the one I’m talking about, but I won’t go into that yet. Why not? I just don’t know enough about AI.

The fact is we are all sad lonely dancers on a massive stage. And we are all dancing by ourselves. Ain’t that something? Yet somehow we all want to be like everyone else. Which is what our mistake is. To thrive today, means truly embrace your individuality. And if you’re resistant to that, realize with how the culture developed and how we are all fed tremendous amounts of different viewpoints and perspective, it is simply not possible to be like everyone else. Not anymore.

So try to at least view yourself as valuable. Not because of any accomplishments or skills, or talents. No, view yourself as innately valuable. You hold value only because of who you are. That’s the key.

Such a mood

The shared culture we have created is a massive pool to draw of. Points of reference to connect yourself to. Different movements, memes, preferences, hobbies. All sorts of things you can connect up to to give your personality a structure. That’s not even getting into all the potential values you can draw from, if you search through old books, ancient cultures, different past movements. There’s so much to draw from.

We search for meaning, by our nature. My answer was, I decide what’s meaningful to me. That doesn’t have to be your answer, because that’s the entire point! We can choose! So try to find meaning in something, even if it’s something goofy and strange. It’s time to enjoy your life for once.

Ultimately we pick and choose what matters to us. We will always search for answers, and in the past those answers would be given by our close friends and family. Now we are left to navigate this confusing world on our own. So try to get used to this feeling, as it has a tremendous liberation for those of us who truly embrace this cold and lonely rationality, that a lot of us have grown to despite. Good luck!
