The modern lifestyle is unnatural; here’s what you can do about it.

World-wide Web

We live in an age of extreme connection. Yet we are more lonely than ever. The internet comes with a lot of benefits. You could develop and learn from masters of self development. Masters like Tony Robbins, Alex Hormozi, Alan Watts and Owen Cook. Still, this isn’t a natural way of life for people. We were tribal, we knew everyone in our tribe, and we understood our place and what to do. Now we’re in a global tribe, and it’s difficult to know everyone and know what to do.

Cultivating a lifestyle

An engaging lifestyle doesn’t just happen one day, without effort. Same as learning an instrument doesn’t just happen, it takes intentional action. This seems to be getting more common for self development coaches to talk about, although that just might be my bias. We all seek out what we want, or what others want. Unless you build your dreams, your helping others build theirs. There’s a lot of truth to that.

Return to monke! What’s natural..

I’m a big believer in effortless action. To rely on your animal intuition to show you the easiest way to approach a problem. Alongside modern traits like rationality, and tolerance, as well as traits that are older; honor, courage, and those types of high ideals.

The biggest upside of animal intuition is it takes no effort. If you’re fully engaged with the task, you close out the outside world and just focus in on the task at hand, it takes no effort. It’s been called flow state, peak performance, mindfulness and likely a buncha other terms. But we could just as easily call it “animal intuition.” Block out distractions and get on with it!

Easy living, in the modern day

A true natural in social skills, is someone with no hang ups about how they seem to others. Could just as easily be an introvert as an extrovert, although introversion, as an example seems to be something a lot of people have hang ups about. But it just as easily go in the other direction, “this person talks so much, my ears are getting worn.” There’s a lot of trends, and the outsiders get the most push back.

Using the example of introverts, a confident introvert is someone with social skills who knows how to be fun and engaging to others, but needs some or a lot of alone time to recharge. Bringing it back to the easy living modern lifestyle, you must do what comes easiest. This sounds, almost counter intuitive, because life always pushes get outside your comfort zone. And yeah, there’s some merit to that, but you can go outside of your comfort zone in a way thats intutive and makes sense to you. And you can also stay in your comfort zone, although I’m betting not a single person ever gave you that advice.

What does it all mean?!

Pondering the meaning of things goes far back. I can almost imagine a group of tribals sitting around speculating what creates fire, who lives in the hills, who is what and what’s not here. Our minds are pattern finding, we always try to create either a narrative, strategy or some way of going into the future without falling into doubt and despair. And, truth is, there’s nothing wrong with that. Einstein said “It is not that I’m so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.” And we can all benefit from slowing down, and not rushing on and on to the next thing after that. Among other things.

Till next time!
