Relentless pursuit of perfection
We’re naturally looking for something that works for ourselves. We always have our own best interests at heart, but for some strange reason, the world never provides exactly what we want! It’s strange, but true. You could become miserable trying to fix it all somehow into something that fits what you think it should be, because it is completely impossible! No matter what. There’s no arguing with reality, there’s no getting away from what is. So we make the most of it. We try to make it work.
How to fix it so it works
If you want it to be perfect you’re essentially declaring war on all of creation. All the laws of science and every single event throughout history, all our shared culture, none of it was created for you. So.. Calm down a bit. Take some time to think things through! It might not be perfect but maybe you can make it work somehow. Take one of the most basic things and use it as a starting point. Language! You do not choose words, definitions of words, grammar, and historical usage and relevance of certain words, but I’m sure if you tried you could put together an appealing sentence! You can string together a sentence with some words that sound appealing.. And that really is the main idea! To use the building blocks that are there to create something beautiful and original.
It really applies to all fascets of life, even if something is fun and original to one person does not mean it appeals to someone else. There’s a sort of universal subjective nature to our perception, that makes us able to both find meaning in something meaningful, but also something meaningless. And that is amazing!
For all of us we strive to find something that works, and you might at some point realize: anything can work! It’s not about finding out what works, but working with what you find.
Make the most of it
You can find some sort of wicked enjoyment even out of real medicore experiences. I mean what even is the appeal of fishing? You’re just throwing a bait out into the ocean a bunch of times hoping some fish is dumb enough to bite on it. That’s one way of looking at it, but still there’s a massive appeal to fishing. It is the meaning we decide to give it that makes it meaningful. There’s no way to alter the fabric of reality, but you can choose your own attitude, and decide your own choices, including what you find meaningful and satifying.
You probably don’t have the perfect friend, or the six pack abs, or go to the coolest parties. None of that. What you do have is probably not the best of anything, yet some people might envy what you have. There might be people and look at you and think “Man, I want what he has.” It does happen, and not only to the most fortunate ones among us.
We are the deciders of our lives. We are makers of our destiny.
