The art of crafting the perfect lifestyle

Can you decide on your ideal lifestyle?

You need to be looking out for a lane. Something that suits and keeps you comfy and content. There’s so many different ideals you can take on and no easy way to sift out the non essentials. Are you looking to be the badass biker dude, with a mean stare and leather jacket? Or maybe the sensitive artist, who acts like a recluse who just wants to paint? You need to figure out what’s important in your life, and what you value and want out of life, yourself. But there is plenty of material to get inspired from. Movies, books, music, and even some lifestyles like off-the-grid or sustainable living that you can draw from, and work into your daily life.

The most important thing in crafting your ideal lifestyle is figuring out who you really are. Once you figure out who you are you scope out what’s attainable, and chip away at it until it’s become a habit. Knowing who you really are is the true north star in creating and shaping your life and what you want out of it.

How to get motivated, and dedicated

If you know who you are you need to start seeing problems as solvable. I’m not going to say that if you want to be a bird, then just go for it! Just jump off a cliff, what’s the worst that can happen? Because ultimately there’s a limit to your problem solving ability. But problems like insecurity, laziness or lack of fitness can be overcome. Only if you see your problems as solvable will you actually take action towards solving em. That’s important.

I believe the key is to get to the source of the problem. If you don’t feel motivated, what’s actually stopping you? What would it take to motivate you? You can, to some degree condition your own thinking, which is a mixed blessing once your focus is on the negative, because you are conditioning yourself for failure.

At some point we have to make the decision to just go for it! Do your best, and if you fail at least you made an attempt! I call that “starting”, and it’s a common thing we all go through. If someone already started 10 years ago and was somewhat succesful, you might look at them with envy. But there’s no way of knowing what your unique assets and personality can achieve, so the sky is the limit in a way. Don’t get mixed up in envy and comparing with others.

Incremental success over barriers

You don’t overcome a problem, something like addiction, or poverty, all at once. It can happen, you can have some type of peak experience, and overcome your addiction through something like a psychedelic trip or just some seemingly divine revolution. Winning the lottery is another example of this, overcoming poverty all of the sudden. But it’s just not realistic, and you can’t bank on getting lucky. You take one step at a time, and focus on your next move. That’s how you get incremental successes, which can build on eachother.

The key is to focus on something that’s both important and attainable. If your starting out writing and your goal is to write a litterary classic, that’s too much. If you’re starting playing the guitar, and you’re looking to play like Jimi Hendrix that just won’t happen. You can find a smaller goal, like learning the pentatonic scale and just getting good at that. Especially if you can get real creative with your options, there’s always some goal you can focus on.

What’s your vibe?

Assuming you know who you are, and what you want out of life; you need the self-awareness to figure out your vibe. Vibe is something like, a mix between who you are, who you want to be and how you present to others. It’s kind of a way of signaling to others what you think is cool, and what success means to you. So knowing yourself is key, and you can work on finding out what your vibe is. This ties into the lifestyle because even if you know who you are it’s not a given that you know which career path to take, or what exact actions are needed to make you happy. That’s where vibe comes in.

To figure out your vibe, just look at what you like about people you admire. What is it that makes them captivating and appealing? What’s the source of their charm? Is there a way for you to work that into your daily living, and maybe figure out your own method of dealing that way?

There’s something to be said for not copying. In fact, I would say it is a major thing. Copying others is something like taking a shortcut to achieve that success. You can learn from others, and work out things in a similar way, but it shouldn’t be copying or taking shortcuts. You need to always stay authentic. And it is difficult!

Success is a slow, and gradual process

You move through life meeting all kinds of obstacles, and you’re never quite there. There’s always something blocking you from that flow state experience, or happiness. So take your time, move at your own pace. Be yourself, and never stop believing. And always remember, it’s not your fault!

Choose to do what makes you happy, even if it is difficult and complicated. Don’t try to look at it as something too easy, either. It can sometimes be easy, but true happiness comes from sacrifice and hard work. You got this!
